As part of his participation in NAFSA 2026, the world's largest international education conference held in the United States, the President of Nawroz University, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mevan Arif Abdulrahman, visited the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Washington, D.C., where he met with Dr. Duraid Mahmood Ali Abbas, Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Chief of Mission. He also held a meeting with representatives of the Iraqi Cultural Office, including Dr. Alaa Alhusainy, Accociate Cultural Attaché, and Dr. Hussein Al-Sheakh, Director of Administration.

The meeting focused on several issues related to higher education and explored prospects for academic cooperation between American universities and universities in the Kurdistan Region, particularly private universities. Discussions also highlighted the role that the Iraqi Embassy and the Iraqi Cultural Office can play in facilitating and strengthening such cooperation for the benefit of higher education institutions in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

The discussions further addressed opportunities for academic partnerships between Nawroz University and American universities, including training programs, academic exchange initiatives, and postgraduate study opportunities for students and graduates. In addition, both sides explored potential mechanisms for cooperation in scientific research and other areas of mutual interest.

The participants emphasized the importance of maintaining communication and coordination in the coming period to transform these discussions into practical initiatives and sustainable partnerships. Such efforts are expected to contribute to expanding Nawroz University's international academic relations and creating new opportunities for its students and academic staff.

This visit reflects Nawroz University's ongoing commitment to strengthening its international presence and building strategic partnerships with leading educational and academic institutions worldwide, in line with its vision for advancing higher education and fostering global engagement.
