History

Nawroz University (NU) was established in 2004 as the first private university in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, marking an important milestone in the development of higher education in the region. Founded with a vision to provide quality education and contribute to societal advancement, the University began its journey with a limited number of academic programs and a strong commitment to academic excellence.

Over the years, Nawroz University has steadily expanded its academic offerings, infrastructure, and institutional capacity in response to the evolving educational and professional needs of society. Through continuous development, the University has grown into a respected higher education institution serving students from across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Throughout its history, Nawroz University has remained committed to fostering knowledge, critical thinking, innovation, and community engagement. The University has continuously invested in improving teaching and learning environments, enhancing research activities, and strengthening academic quality in line with national and international standards.

A significant phase in the University’s development has been the expansion of its academic structure to include seven colleges offering approximately twenty-four academic programs across a wide range of disciplines. This growth reflects the University’s dedication to providing diverse educational opportunities and preparing graduates for the demands of a rapidly changing world.

In recent years, Nawroz University has further strengthened its commitment to academic excellence through the adoption of modern educational approaches, quality assurance mechanisms, and the implementation of the Bologna Process. The University has also expanded its engagement with regional and international partners, promoting academic cooperation, mobility, and research collaboration.

Today, with more than 12,000 graduates and over two decades of academic experience, Nawroz University continues to build upon its legacy as a pioneering institution of higher education.
